General Loan Calculator Guide
Consumer / Business / Car / Credit Loans
The general loan calculator covers non-mortgage borrowing such as consumer loans, business loans, car loans, renovation loans and credit loans. These loans are usually smaller and shorter than mortgages, but rates vary widely and product structures can be complex — advertising like “0.05% daily interest” or “0.5% monthly fee” often masks the true annual cost. The tool compares equal-installment and equal-principal methods side by side, producing monthly payment, total interest, total cost, a principal/interest chart and a monthly trend chart, so you know the real cost before you apply and avoid the illusion of a low monthly payment.
01 Parameters
Principal, term and annual rate are the three core inputs. Principal is the amount actually disbursed; term sets the repayment period (consumer loans typically 1–5 years, business loans 1–10 years, car loans 1–5 years); the annual rate is the nominal annualized rate. If a product charges handling or service fees, convert the all-in cost into an equivalent annual rate and enter that for a truer total cost.
After choosing a repayment method, the results show key metrics for both equal installment and equal principal (first/fixed monthly payment, total repayment, total interest), with the active method highlighted for easy cross-comparison. Equal installment gives a stable payment for budgeting; equal principal has lower total interest but higher early payments, and the gap is smaller for short-term loans.
- Principal: from 1 yuan, no upper limit
- Term: 1–40 years
- Annual rate: 0%–30%, two-decimal precision
- Example: consumer loan 500k, 5 years, 4.35%; car loan 150k, 3 years, 5.6%
02 True annual cost and comparison
Many products quote a “monthly fee rate” or “daily interest” — for example 0.05% per day is about 18.25% simple annual interest, but because principal declines monthly under installment repayment the real APR/IRR is usually higher. Enter the contract annual rate here to see total interest and repayment, then compare offers from multiple lenders. Choose a loan by total cost, not just the monthly payment, and also consider prepayment penalties and credit reporting.
The trend chart is an SVG line graph showing monthly principal and interest, helping you see how the interest share declines over the loan. After calculating, click Export CSV to download an Excel-compatible schedule for budgeting, reimbursement or as a reference when negotiating with a lender.
Method
- Equal installmentFixed monthly payment (annuity); best for predictable budgeting.
- Equal principalFixed principal slice; higher early payments, lower total interest.
Inputs
- principalLoan amount disbursed, in yuan.
- yearsRepayment term, 1–40 years.
- annual rateNominal annual interest rate, 0–30%.
Actions
- CalculateComputes both methods side by side with charts and schedule.
- ResetRestores the default inputs.
- Export CSVDownloads the amortization schedule for the active method.
- The nominal annual rate is not the same as the true APR/IRR — fold in fees
- Compare multiple lenders on total cost, not monthly payment alone
- Business loans are use-regulated — never divert funds to property or stocks
- Car loans often include service fees, GPS fees and deposit — true cost may exceed the nominal rate
- Regulated loans appear on your credit record; too much debt can hinder a future mortgage
- Keep all monthly debt payments within 50% of after-tax household income
- Try the defaults of 100k at 4.35% over 3 years to model a typical car loan
- Renovation and consumer loans can export a CSV schedule for offer comparison and record-keeping
This free online loan calculator handles consumer loans, business/working-capital loans, car loans, renovation loans and credit lines — any "fixed principal + fixed annual rate + installments" structure. Enter principal, rate and term to compare both repayment methods side by side: a car loan of 100k at 4.35% over 3 years and a 500k personal consumer loan at 5-year equal installment are both one click away.
Personal consumer, business, car and renovation loan monthly payment calculator
Consumer installments (phones, appliances, travel), small business working capital, auto finance, home renovation, credit-card installment APR conversion, even informal family loans. Any "fixed principal + fixed annual rate + fixed installments" structure is supported.
Equal installment vs equal principal side by side — first and last payments visible
Equal installment and equal principal are computed together. The monthly table lines up payment, principal, interest and remaining balance for both methods, making it easy to trade off cash-flow stability against total interest and see exactly how an equal-principal loan decreases each month.
Real APR and total interest: compare daily 0.05% loan offers truthfully
Ads often quote "daily rate of 0.05%" or "monthly fee 0.5%", but the real annual percentage rate can be much higher because the outstanding principal shrinks. Use the tool to reveal the actual total interest and total repayment on a 4.35% annual rate, online loan true APR and other offers before you sign.

The full schedule exports to CSV — useful for comparing offers from different banks and finance companies, or for taking to an advisor. Every calculation is also saved to your local history for later reference; inputs and results are never uploaded.
FAQ
QFor short-term loans, does the repayment method matter?
Much less than for a mortgage. On a RMB 100k three-year loan at 6%, the two methods differ by only around RMB 500 in total interest; over 30 years it can be tens of thousands. For terms under three years, pick based on whether you prefer a flat payment or a decreasing one.
QHow do I convert a daily or monthly rate into an annual rate?
Simple-interest conversion: daily 0.05% × 365 ≈ 18.25% APR; monthly 0.5% × 12 = 6% APR. But with installment repayment the actual IRR-style APR is higher because principal is reduced every month. Re-run the numbers in the loan calculator using equal-installment to see the true figure.
QIs there a penalty for early repayment?
It depends on the contract. Many banks waive penalties after the first year but charge 1–3% before then. The tool shows the theoretical maximum interest saving; subtract any contractual penalty to find the real benefit.
QWhy is the dealer's monthly car payment lower than what I calculate?
Common reasons: (1) manufacturer subsidized ("discounted") interest; (2) a down payment means you financed less than the car price; (3) a large balloon payment at the end makes the installments lower but isn't a standard annuity. Always ask for the contract APR.
QDo consumer loans affect my credit or future mortgage?
Bank and licensed consumer-finance loans are reported to the PBoC credit registry. Outstanding consumer debt counts toward your debt-to-income ratio when a mortgage is assessed. Consider settling short-term unsecured loans at least six months before applying for a mortgage.
QWhat is a safe monthly-payment-to-income ratio?
A common rule is that all debt payments (mortgage + car + consumer loans combined) should not exceed 50% of after-tax family income, with the mortgage alone at 30–40%. Above that, shocks to income become difficult to absorb.
QDoes the tool support revolving or draw-when-needed credit lines?
Not in this version. The calculator models fixed-principal, fixed-term installment loans. Revolving facilities accrue daily interest on a fluctuating balance, which is a different product and may be added later.
QWhat is the monthly payment on a 100,000 yuan car loan at 4.35% over 3 years?
Enter 100,000 principal, 4.35% annual rate and a 3-year term. Under equal installment the calculator returns a fixed monthly payment; switching to equal principal shows a higher first payment that declines each month, with both total-interest figures compared side by side.
QHow do I compare equal installment vs equal principal for a consumer loan?
Enter principal, rate and term and the tool computes both methods at once. The summary and schedule line up the monthly payment, total interest and total repayment, so you can trade off a stable flat payment against lower total interest.
QCan I export the loan repayment schedule?
Yes. After calculating, click "Export CSV" on the schedule card to download a file with each month’s payment, principal, interest and remaining balance. It opens in Excel or WPS and is useful for comparing offers from different lenders.
QHow is a 500,000 yuan renovation loan over 5 years calculated?
Treat it as a general loan: enter 500,000 principal, the quoted annual rate and 5 years. The calculator shows both repayment methods and the full schedule. Fold any handling or service fees into an equivalent annual rate to see the true total cost, not just the monthly payment.
QWhat down payment is needed for a car loan?
In China, most new-energy vehicles require at least 15% down and traditional fuel cars at least 20%, but dealers often promote 0% or 30% down offers. Enter the financed amount (car price minus down payment minus trade-in), the dealer-quoted annual rate and the term (typically 3–5 years) to see the real monthly payment.
QCan I pay off a consumer or car loan early?
Most banks allow early repayment after the first 6–12 months, but some charge a penalty of 1–3% of the prepaid principal or a few months of interest. Check the contract. The theoretical interest saved shown by the calculator is the upper bound; subtract any penalty to find the actual benefit.
